Career Reflections on Chiropractic Care & Working with MDs from Dr. Jeff
I have been practicing chiropractic in the state of Wisconsin for twenty four years. It’s interesting to see how things have changed over time. I started practicing in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, as an employee and a year later opened my own office in Delafield.
I spent the next ten years in Delafield, meeting people and growing my practice. When conversing with other chiropractors there, I found that working with or even communicating with MDs seemed virtually non-existent. It appeared that chiropractors and medical doctors completely “did their own things” and never communicated with each other.
In 2009, my career took a different path and I closed my office in Delafield. I started working in other chiropractor’s offices. I began to notice how MDs and chiropractors were beginning to communicate and work together.Currently, I’ve heard that Aurora Hospitals and the Medical College of Wisconsin have DCs on their staffs. Furthermore, Dr. Rich Venske and I are seeing MDs refer to chiropractic offices including Kettle Moraine Health Center.
The reverse holds true as well, meaning that Dr. Rich and I readily refer patients to medical doctors for patient care. Orthopedic Associates on Hwy 94 has been referring patients to our office for the last year or two. Dr. Rich and I consider this a huge compliment. We provide the best care possible with timely feedback to the MDs at Orthopedic Associates.
I’m really excited to see the “group effort” involved between the MDs and chiropractors grow. It’s a win-win scenario, where the patient receives the best care possible in a very timely fashion. It’s nice to see health care professionals put their egos aside and work together for the sake of the patient. It’s a situation where everyone wins.
