Blue Zone #1

As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, I’m embarking on an exciting exploration of the lifestyle behaviors of people who live the healthiest and the longest in our world. These so called ‘Blue Zones’ are certainly varied in many ways, but researchers have found nine commonalities that appear to contribute to long and healthy lives.

#1.
Move naturally. People around the world that live the longest integrate movement into their lives on a continuous basis. We may not realize it but we have automated away our lives to a very significant degree. I understand that some of us have jobs that don’t lend themselves to regular movement, but that doesn’t mean we can’t strive to do better.

There are crossroads in our daily lives where we can either sit idly and pay someone to do something for us, or we can do it ourselves. I know precious few people who over-use their bodies. We suffer from chronic underuse. Make it your default setting to create goals and hobbies that involve getting outside and move!
