Updates from KMHC regarding office protocols for COVID-19
What a first week we had. We had a remarkable turnout and it was mostly business as usual at the mighty KMHC. I was amazed at our staff’s willingness and ability to roll with the changes we implemented to make our office as safe as possible. As of the time of this writing, the Governor is invoking the ‘safer at home’ order. This allows for travel to, among other things, health care facilities. So for now, we are still open and happy to see you! Here’s a couple of new things for you.
One, just to be extra safe, we’re asking that if you have any symptoms of any sort that you stay home and rest. That includes sneezing, sore throat, runny nose, etc. They may not fit under the definition of the Corona virus but again, we still don’t know everything about this bug.
Two, we are staggering our schedule a bit to allow for more space between patients. That means it may be more difficult to get in with me, but fortunately my very capable colleague Dr. Jeff Hamill is also standing by to help. He’s been adjusting me once a week lately and is by far the best chiro I’ve ever received treatment from.
Three, we’re also working out a system where you stay in your car and wait for one of us to flag you down to come in. It may seem a little much but we are on board with all of government’s decrees to keep the spread of this virus minimized so we can get on with getting our normal lives back as soon as possible. So as of this writing, when you come to our office, hang out in your car, and wait for a smiling face to appear to wave you in.
It’s occurred to me that maybe we should shut down and ride this out at home. In the end, it has come down to the fact that we are providing a service that this country needs, now more than ever. Chiropractic care is one of the most effective means of reducing many kinds of pain. In many cases, the work we do is keeping patients out of emergency rooms and urgent care centers. They have their hands full as it is, and if we can reduce the burden on them, it is our duty to do so. We also need to stay open to provide you with outstanding massage therapy (click to learn more about health benefits of massage) and acupuncture (click to learn more about benefits) , which also appear to have an immune system boosting effect. Don’t forget also that we have stocked numerous products such as vitamin D, C, and oil of oregano that can help maintain a healthy immune system. So, as of now, plan on us being there for you. I’ll leave you with this well-written poem that may help put this whole crazy virus situation in perspective.
Lockdown
Yes there is fear.
Yes there is isolation.
Yes there is panic buying.
Yes there is sickness.
Yes there is even death.
But,
They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise
You can hear the birds again.
They say that after just a few weeks of quiet
The sky is no longer thick with fumes
But blue and grey and clear.
They say that in the streets of Assisi
People are singing to each other
across the empty squares,
keeping their windows open
so that those who are alone
may hear the sounds of family around them.
They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland
Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound.
Today a young woman I know
is busy spreading fliers with her number
through the neighbourhood
So that the elders may have someone to call on.
Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples
are preparing to welcome
and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary
All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting
All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way
All over the world people are waking up to a new reality
To how big we really are.
To how little control we really have.
To what really matters.
To Love.
So we pray and we remember that
Yes there is fear.
But there does not have to be hate.
Yes there is isolation.
But there does not have to be loneliness.
Yes there is panic buying.
But there does not have to be meanness.
Yes there is sickness.
But there does not have to be disease of the soul
Yes there is even death.
But there can always be a rebirth of love.
Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now.
Today, breathe.
Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic
The birds are singing again
The sky is clearing,
Spring is coming,
And we are always encompassed by Love.
Open the windows of your soul
And though you may not be able
to touch across the empty square,
Sing.
