Covid-19 (Corona Virus)

Hi everyone,
I thought it was time to get you my take on the Covid-19 (Corona Virus). There’s plenty of talk about hand washing and not touching your face. There’s also plenty of talk about Corona beer sales being down. Turns out that’s not true, as are many other things you’ve heard. My feeling is that the media will hype this up and exaggerate as long as it gets ratings up. My feeling is also that government agencies will have a tendency to downplay the Corona related news to minimize public panic. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

What seems to be lacking is discussion on how to bolster one’s immune system and fight the virus naturally, should you contract it. The following is a list of things you can try in effort to protect yourself, not only from the Corona, but any other viral, bacterial, or fungal infections. It is not exhaustive, and I encourage everyone to do their own research and draw their own conclusions.

Lifestyle:

• Sleep. This needs to be one of your top priorities. So much of immune system function is reliant on quality rest.

• Stress management. Stress=high cortisol= weakened immunity. Take a deep breath and relax already!

• Exercise. Do something every day. Weights, sports, swimming, walking. No excuse. Just do it! You may, however, want to consider cancelling that arm wrestling convention you signed up for…

• Great diet. Throw away the junk food and start buying more food from the perimeter of the grocery store. You can’t go wrong with organic produce and pasture raised organic protein.

• Fasting. Fasting 16-24 hours at a time several times a week.

• Body work:Get adjusted regularly. It’s anecdotal, I know, so forgive the soft science. The flu pandemic of 1918 saw the death of millions of people worldwide. According to one chiropractic historian, people began to notice that those who were getting adjusted were staying alive.

• Massage. There is so much to gain from this type of work. Improving lymphatic flow and reducing sympathetic nervous system overdrive are just a couple of ways massage improves immunity.

• Acupuncture. This modality helps balance and improve all body systems, including immunity.

Generally, we encourage people to come in and see us when they’re feeling ill. Until we know more about this virus, we feel the top priority is for people to stay home and rest until all symptoms have completely subsided.

These include:

  • Fever

  • Cough/Shortness of breath

  • Sore throat

Supplements: The world of supplements is vast and overwhelming. The following is a brief list of the things I have used successfully over the years. It is not by any means comprehensive. My bottom line remains that I have yet to miss one day of work due to illness since starting at KMHC in 1996. I truly believe that this is, in part due to the supplements I take.
• Vitamin D. Great for immune system enhancement. Keep your level at least 50ng/ml.
• Oil of Oregano. This oil, taken orally, kills viruses very effectively.
• Vitamin C. I believe there is credibility in the claim that taking very high doses when fighting an infection can lower the duration and severity of the illness. It needs to be accompanied by other ingredients such as bioflavonoids, however, to be effective.

The above 3 have been my staple ‘goto’s’ for the past 25 years and haven’t failed me yet.
The following also appear to have sufficient credible evidence that they can support your immune system and aid in fighting numerous types of infections.

  • zinc and selenium

  • probiotics

  • colloidal silver

  • essential oils such as cinnamon, clove, and tea tree oils

  • glandulars

  • reishi mushrooms

We will try diligently to keep products that contain these ingredients available at KMHC through the duration of the surge of this virus. So as of the release of this newsletter, I will continue my life as it was before. I will keep you informed as new information arises. We’re all in this together and we will get through it.
Yours in good health,
